USS Liberty attack - 45 years ago today

Wow! Another year has gone by. Thanks to Kevin Lewis for the reminder. Here is a re-post of the one I wrote last year on this subject. Please link over to the articles to learn more.
For those that do not know this event, the USS Liberty was a surveillance ship off the cost of the Sinai Peninsula during the Arab - Israeli Six-day war of 1967. They were attacked by Israeli air and sea defense forces which cost the lives of 34 people, military and civilian. Mistakes on both the USA and Israel sides caused miscommunication, one of which was that the American ship was wrongly identified as the Egyptian supply ship El Quseir.

To this day the attack is also considered, in some circles, a deliberate attack by Israel to hide Israeli military secrets during the war.
